State Farm Spotlight Person for November 2024

We are excited to announce our spotlight for November...

Retired Army Veteran Carey Smith!!!!!!!

Carey has spent his life serving others, and taking them where they need to go in a professional, caring and kind way. He served in the Army for almost 20 years, worked at the White House in 1994 providing transportation to the President, VIPS, Dignitaries, and family members. He worked providing transportation for children with disabilities at the Accotink Academy in Springfield, VA, and worked in law enforcement with the Department of Logistics. Carey’s list of credentials is quite lengthy but when you get right down to it, that is not what makes him such a truly amazing human being!

Carey was nominated by another member of the community who shared the following, “Carey Smith owns VIP transportation. It’s a non-emergency medical transport company. He offers great care with those that call him. Never rushes the person, he goes into their home or office to insure patients are safe. He even advocates for them when they take too long getting to his clients. He’s not going to leave to go pick up someone else. This guy goes out of his way to help everyone that calls him!”

Visiting with Carey it is easy to see why he was nominated and that he cares so deeply about those he transports. Carey and his wife have 5 amazing children who have all given so much to their communities. One of those children was a son named Jr. In 2018, Jr. unexpectedly passed away. He was non verbal, developmentally delayed, and in a wheelchair. Carey had talked with Jr. about someday starting a business transporting people who needed help, and Jr. gave his dad a “yeah right look!” After his passing, Carey worked hard to open his VIP transport business, and strives to give each individual the same love, care and attention he gave to his own son!

Carey shared story after story about people he helped who had in turn touched his life! One such experience brought tears to both of our eyes as he shared the following, “I got a call from a mother who said that her son was dying, he had less than a month to live and he had 2 special requests. He wanted to have dinner with friends and family at a Japanese steakhouse, and on Sunday he wanted to get married to his sweetheart. We picked him up for the dinner in his wheelchair, and again picked him up then took him to the wedding on Sunday. He took his vows and got married, and at the end of that beautiful day he grabbed my hand and said, "Mr. Smith, you will always be in my heart. Thank you for making my day!” Carey was later contacted by his parents and was told that he passed. I was so happy I made his day, he wouldn't have been able to marry his sweetheart. Every year at Christmas I get a card from his parents. This is all about family, things like this make me appreciate having a business like this!”

Carey’s business motto is, “Treat everyone like a VIP!” VIP medical transport may be considered a small business but they have a HUGE heart! Thank you Carey and your team for lifting up others in our community! The respect and kindness you extend to others is inspiring, and we so greatly appreciate you!
